EuroLeague Women Preview: Thursday 16 February

EKATERINBURG (EuroLeague Women) – There's another repeat of the 2016 EuroLeague Women Final on Thursday when UMMC Ekaterinburg host domestic rivals Nadezhda Orenburg.

Both teams are safely into the Quarter-Finals of the competition and eyeing up another trip back to the Final Four – something which has become a perennial accomplishment for the hosts.

Certainly, UMMC have been sensational on their home floor so far, with the reigning champions unbeaten at the DIVS Arena and racking up some huge scores against their opponents - such as their 91-69 win against ESBVA-LM last week.

We treated ESBVA-LM with great respect as they are one of the very athletic teams," mused head coach, Olaf Lange.

"Despite the win, we have kept in mind that they were missing their point guard [Olivia Epoupa] who is one of the best at what she does.

"But, our defense still needs some time to grow," added the play-caller.

His counterpart Roberto Iniguez was satisfied with his team's last outing as Nadezhda eased past Bourges 69-61.

He said: "I was pleased with the result, because the game was very important for us.

"We got our ninth victory in EuroLeague Women and it is a very good result against a team that showed some good basketball."

Now Iniguez and his players will want to make sure they are more competitive than during their first meeting against UMMC.

They had plenty of time to reflect on a home court mauling as they crashed 88-59 heading into the winter break.

It is also a result which means that while they could still theoretically finish with the same record as their opponents, UMMC have top spot all but wrapped up already.
