EuroCup Women Round of 16: social media spotlight and reaction

MUNICH (EuroCup Women) - We catch up with some of those involved in the EuroCup Women Round of 16 second leg match-ups and see how it played out on social media.

Reyer Venezia can lay a good claim to having posted the best result of the Round of 16. They were jumping for joy in Israel after completing a fantastic 72-51 road win at Maccabi Bnot.

Something will have to give in the next phase after the still flawless Bellona Agu and Spar Citylift Girona were paired together. The latter fought off a late salvage attempt from TSV 1880 Wasserburg to take a 79-71 triumph.

Girona head coach Eric Suris was disappointed with his team's worrying wobble during the last quarter, but wasn't allowing it to take the shine off the victory.

He said: "We enjoyed a good first part of the game because that is when we achieved our goals.

"Everyone was losing their attention in the last quarter, but I want to take the best and positives from the game and especially because we took two wins against Wasserburg."

There was joy for first-timers Eirene Virtus Ragusa as they clinched a spot in the Round of 8 with a 75-71 win against Basketball Nymburk.

While it proved disappointing for Romania national team wing Sonia Ursu, she was still feeling upbeat in the wake of her team's exit.

There was plenty of drama in Charleville-Mezieres as the hometown favorites Flammes Carolo Basket came within a point of overturning a 19-point deficit from the first leg.

It was a dramatic finale as Good Angels Kosice eventually clung on to their Round of 8 ticket after losing 72-58 - much to the relief of their players.

We are through to the next round of eurocup!!! #GoodAngels 👊🏼🎉

TTT Riga, they must dust themselves down from a major disappointment. The Latvian side only just came up short as well - edged out in the tie after beating VBW CEKK Cegled 61-57 but failing to overturn the seven-point deficit from the first meeting.

"We burned a lot of energy trying to come back after the unsuccessful start [to this second game]," said TTT Riga head coach, Aigars Nerips.

"The good part was that our opponents scored less than 60 points, but the bad part was our shooting percentage dropping to 29%.

"There's no immediate explanation as to why we shot the ball so badly and out leaders missed a lot of shots.

"We tried to get the ball inside the paint but didn't succeed and it gives us food for thought."
