Girona, Schio revel on the road to reach Group B summit

MUNICH (Germany) - Spar Girona and Beretta Famila Schio both enjoyed wins on their travels on Thursday to conclude Gameday 8 action as they moved into a four-way share of top spot in Group B.

Girona made it three on the bounce in overcoming Sopron Basket in a 68-53 road success to avenge their previous loss when the two sides met on opening night back in October.

Julia Reisingerova top scored with 17 points in the win with Bintah Drammeh close behind on 16 points, while Rebekah Gardner posted a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds as the trio helped their side join Sopron on a 5-3 record.

Gabby Williams finished with 15 points, 6 steals, 5 rebounds and 4 assists in vain for the hosts, who had used a 15-0 spell to lead 27-20 at half-time. However, Girona battled back as they doubled up their opponents with a 26-13 third period to surge ahead before carrying the momentum through to the buzzer.

Meanwhile, Schio took their winning run to four straight games as they overcame a spirited challenge from Basket Landes to pick up a 79-64 success in France.

Kim Mestdagh started a perfect 9-of-9 from the field on the way to a game-high 28 points including six three-pointers in the win for the Italian side. Three other players reached double figures in scoring, while Sandrine Gruda just missed out on a double-double with 9 points and 14 rebounds.

Basket Landes led by as many as six with an early 16-10 advantage, but Schio moved in front to lead 38-35 at half-time. The gap was down to just a single point late in the third before Costanza Verona sparked an 8-2 close in a pivotal run.

Schio pulled away for a double-digit victory and join three other teams - Spar Girona, Sopron Basket and Fenerbahce Safiport - at the top of Group B with five wins from eight games as the Regular Season moves past the halfway point.
