Fenerbahce inflict derby blowout on Galatasaray, Dynamo Kursk win nail-biter in Gdynia

MUNICH (Germany) - Wednesday turned out to be a memorable night for Fenerbahce Safiport as they stormed to victory in the Istanbul derby, while Dynamo Kursk escaped in a thriller at VBW Arka Gdynia.

Fenerbahce Safiport not only completed a Group B double against their fierce city rivals, having beaten Galatasaray earlier in the campaign, but they also did so in style with a dominant 107-62 success. Rampant from tip to buzzer, Fenerbahce had six different players with double digits in points, including a game-high 26 from Kayla McBride.

Alina Iagupova picked up a fine double-double of 15 points and 10 assists, while Satou Sabally recorded 19 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. While there was some mitigation for Galatasaray who did not have one of their leaders on the floor, in Anete Steinberga, this was a disappointing defeat which sees them fall to 4-4 in the Group.

Dynamo Kursk badly needed a victory after three straight losses and they got it - although it was a close-run thing on the road at VBW Arka Gdynia. The Russian visitors dug out a precious 67-64 success, although they allowed a double-digit lead to evaporate in the last quarter.

While Megan Gustafson was terrific for Gdynia with 22 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists, the Polish side didn't execute down the stretch as they missed out on a chance of a second win of the campaign. Natasha Howard was the standout for Kursk with 13 points and 12 boards.

In Group A, UMMC Ekaterinburg march on regardless as they pushed out their winning streak and flawless record to eight games after moving past TTT Riga 75-60

The visitors from Latvia competed well, but UMMC always looked like they had an extra gear, with Emma Meesseman and Alba Torrens coming up big for the defending champions. The former went 9 of 11 from the field for 22 points, with Torrens posting an all-action line of 15 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists.

ZVVZ USK Praha continue to keep pace as they moved to 6-2 with a powerful 89-54 triumph at home to BLMA. Opening up with a 28-15 first quarter, Praha never had cause to look back as they clicked through the gears impressively.

Alyssa Thomas was one dish from a triple-double with 18 points, 1 rebounds and 9 assists, Brionna Jones impressed with 15 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists, while Dragana Stankovic went 8 of 9 from the floor for 17 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 blocks.

Meanwhile the search for an elusive first ever Regular Season win for KSC Szekszard continues after they crashed 65-51 on their home floor against Umana Reyer Venezia. Only Cyesha Goree excelled in defeat with 19 points.

By contrast, Umana Reyer Venezia prospered from a number of decisive performances, including 12 points and 10 rebounds from Kayla Thornton, plus 16 points from Astou Ndour.
