Bitter-sweet night for Iniguez who dedicates famous Sopron win to Alaina Coates

SOPRON (EuroLeague Women) – As the celebrations of a return to the Final Four got underway in Sopron, playcaller Roberto Iniguez was quick to spare a thought for the absent Alaina Coates.

The American center, who was the standout figure during the pivotal win in Istanbul last week which squared the series with Fenerbahce, was not able to play in the decisive third game after jetting back to the States to deal with the pain of a family tragedy.

"I have mixed feelings," confessed Iniguez after his team beat his ex-employers 67-46.

"I am very sad about the tragedy that hurt Alaina, but on the other hand, I am very happy about the result. I don't know what to say as everyone saw what we did.

"We have worked hard every day and believed strongly in ourselves – in order to be able to make it [to the Final Four] for Alaina. I hope she can be with us again for the Final Four. This is her team, her second home and we are here for her.

"What we have accomplished is incredible. We have had an extremely hard week behind us and after the second game, we weren't sure if Aleksandra [Crveandakic] could play or not. But, she joined in the battle even with her legs hurting - just like Angela [Salvadores] after she had an anaphylactic shock."

He added: "I am absolutely proud. The girls have deserved to make it to the Final Four. We are a young team and have caused a huge surprise. I can also get ready for my fifth Final Four. I know what it feels like, but my players really haven't realized what they have accomplished.

"We also owe a huge thank you to the fans for their support. Even one hour before the game, we got a great boost from them when we walked out on court to warm up."

"I am very tired as I have been working restlessly since August 15 last year, so I'm going to drink a beer, go to sleep, and have a rest. I will even set aside basketball for a day," smiled the Spaniard.
