France Have An Eye On The Future

MUNICH (FIBA EuroBasket Women 2017 Qualifiers) - EuroBasket Women 2015 finalists France could look to the future when they tip-off their EuroBasket Women 2017 qualifying campaign next month.

Valerie Garnier and her team will combine their attempts to secure a spot in Czech Republic alongside qualification to the Rio Olympics and it could involve harnessing some fresh young talent.

With Isabelle Yacoubou, Ana Filip (nee. Cata-Chitiga) and Diandra Tchatchouang all ruled out of November's first qualifying window due to injury, the door has been left open for young guns Aby Gaye of Villeneuve d'Ascq and Marine Johannes of Mondeville to stake their claims after impressing previously at youth level and also during the first few weeks of the new LFB season.

The duo are part of a 15-strong roster which will assemble in Bourges on 15 November for a training camp ahead of games against Estonia and the Netherlands.

Gaye has been on fire of late and has converted an incredible 69% from the floor this season in the French League and played 18 minutes in Euroleague Women last week.Meanwhile Johannes has averaged a superb 16 points-per-game so far in domestic action.

"The primary objective of these upcoming qualifying windows is of course qualifying for EuroBasket Women 2017," stated Garnier.

"We will also take the opportunity to work with players ahead of the Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

"This allows us to have preparation for windows that will be very short.

"The other goal is also to do a review of how effective the group is and to see young players - along with others who had missed the last selections."

These include players such as Marielle Amant of Villeneuve d'Ascq and Valeriane Ayayi of Basket Lattes Montpellier Agglomeration who have played at major tournaments previously with Les Bleues, but didn't make it to EuroBasket Women 2015.

France 15-Player Roster:

Marielle Amant, Valeriane Ayayi, Helena Ciak, Celine Dumerc, Olivia Epoupa, Aby Gaye, Johanne Gomis, Sandrine Gruda, Mariane Johannes, Anael Lardy, Sarah Michel, Endene Miyem, Paoline Salagnac, Gaelle Skrela, Ingrid Tanqueray
