Gameday 4 Round-Up: Russia book their ticket to FIBA EuroBasket 2017

MUNICH (FIBA EuroBasket 2017 Qualifiers) - Russia are the first team to book a place at the FIBA EuroBasket 2017 from the Qualifiers. Their 78-67 win in Tuzla was enough to keep their record perfect and clinch first place in three-team Group C.

Bosnia and Herzegovina had a 39-31 lead at the half, but it was all Russia after the break. Timofey Mozgov led the team with 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field, and Andrey Vorontsevich connected on four deep shots to gather 16 points. Sergey Karasev collected 15 points to make sure Russia extended their winning streak to four games.

Mirza Teletovic scored 23 points for Bosnia and Herzegovina, but struggled with his shot. The Bosnian captain needed 16 shots from deep to hit 5 three-pointers. Jusuf Nurkic had 18 points and 13 rebounds in defeat, as his side now prepare to face Sweden in a battle for second place.

The Netherlands are in charge of Group B. Their 75-61 win in Austria was their third of the competition, with a single loss, over-turning their three-point deficit from their return match-up with Austria. Worthy De Jong scored 19, Jessey Voorn helped him out in the backcourt by also scoring 19 points. Austria have fallen to 2-2, they are now tied with Germany.

Denmark waited for their first win since 2013, and Germany made them work for it. Even without Tibor Pleiss, Germany held on for 55 minutes of basketball but Denmark finally prevailed 106-102.

In Group G, Hungary are an inch away from their FIBA EuroBasket 2017 ticket. They defeated Great Britain 88-80 in London, putting them two wins ahead of both Team GB and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. Adam Hanga, David Vojvoda and Csaba Ferencz made a pact to score 18 points each and complete a sweep of Great Britain.

Hungary can clinch first place with a win over Luxembourg on Wednesday. The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia had a tough time against the Benelux country on Saturday, but finally squeezed out an 82-74 win. Aleksandar Kostoski flirted with a triple-double, finishing with 20 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists.

Slovenia proved they are not just Dragic brothers. Without both of their star players, Klemen Prepelic took his opportunity to shine. He duly delivered, scoring 27 points on five first half triples in a 91-81 win over Kosovo in Mitrovica. Justin Doellman was even better for Kosovo, scoring 30 points on 5-of-6 shooting from deep.

Ukraine are staying close to Slovenia in Group E. Viacheslav Kravtsov had three blocks in Bulgaria, the biggest of them coming in the final seconds as he denied Asen Velikov's potential game-tying three-pointer. Ukraine won the game 72-67 to climb to a 3-1 record, Kravtsov finished with 18 points. Aleksandar Vezenkov had 19 points for Bulgaria, but missed two important long range efforts in a dramatic finish.

Montenegro stayed perfect in Group F. Nikola Vucevic played just 20 minutes, but still had the time to score 17 points in a 99-62 away win at Slovak Republic. Georgia are just a win behind, following their big second half in Albania. The game was tied at 36 at the break, but Zaza Pachulia led the charge in the second half. Georgia won the game 84-64, Pachulia led four players in double digits with 20 points.

In Group A, Switzerland surprised Iceland with an 83-80 win. David Ramseier was unstoppable, scoring 19 points to lead the hosts to an impressive win. Five players finished in double figures for Iceland, but defence was a problem, and it could prove costly.

The Swiss have helped Belgium with that win. The Lions are now two wins in front of Iceland at the top of the group, following their 72-55 away win against Cyprus. Khalid Boukichou scored 13 points, Jonathan Tabu and Kevin Tumba combined for 20, and Belgium can celebrate a berth with a win over Switzerland on Wednesday.

Poland are also a win away from qualifying. They escaped Portugal with an 81-74 win on Saturday. Mateusz Ponitka had 17 points, and a couple of highlight plays, including a poster dunk in first half.

Belarus defeated Estonia 79-63. However, it was not enough to overtake them in the battle for second spot, as Estonia had defeated Belarus 81-62 first time around. Vitali Liutych was the man of the match, with a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds.
