Shanghai reveals Tissot countdown clock for China 2019

SHANGHAI (FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019) - Following Friday's unveiling of the first Tissot countdown clock in Beijing to mark one year to the start of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019, it was the turn of Shanghai to commemorate the milestone and reveal its very own countdown clock on Saturday night.

The ceremony, held in Shanghai Tower, brought together high-ranking officials from FIBA, Tissot, the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Local Organizing Committee (LOC), as well as leaders of Shanghai's Government, Administration of Sports and they city's own LOC (LLOC).

They were joined by Liu Wei, a key member of China's national team at the 2002 and 2006 editions of the FIBA Basketball World Cup and one of the best players in the Chinese Basketball Association .

FIBA Vice-President Hamane Niang said: "Shanghai is a modern, vibrant and multi-cultural city, as well as a commercial hub for China. Moreover, it has special ties with the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019. This is where the competition's unique and vibrant logo was unveiled in March 2017. It is also the place that has given us Yao Ming, world-renowned sporting icon and global ambassador of this World Cup."

As well as the countdown clock being revealed, the ceremony saw Shanghai being presented a FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 commemorative plaque in recognition of the city's hard work and efforts put forward to host basketball's biggest competition.

The Shanghai Basketball Carnival provided a side activity for fans and passers-by. It featured artistic installations about basketball trend, future, paintings as well as games and documentary viewings.

It was the second countdown clock - produced and operated by FIBA Partner Tissot - unveiled for FIBA's flagship competition.
