Korea ease past Thailand to take second in Level I

BANGKOK, Thailand (FIBA Asia U18 Championship for Women 2016) – Korea secured second place in Level I after easily beating hosts Thailand, 70-57, at FIBA Asia U18 Championship for Women 2016 on Thursday.

Korea lost the opener to China, but four straight victories, including an impressive triumph over Japan, allowed them to take 2nd place.

Turning point: Thailand’s 7-0 run midway in the second quarter reduced Korea’s lead into only four points, however, Korea coach Kim young Min brought back in Park Ji Su and the result was an 8-0 run.

Stats don’t lie: All but one Korean player managed to get their name on the scoresheet as Kim Young Min opted to rest some of the main stars after the comfortable half-time lead.

Game hero: Na Yunjeaong finished with game-high 18 points, including 4 three pointers. Additionally, she had 5 rebounds and 2 assists.

The bottom line:  Korea have been impressive so far at FIBA Asia Championship for Women 2016. It’s true they fell big to China on the opening day, but they bounced back in style and improved as the tournament progressed. Thailand, meanwhile, showed character and fighting spirit in all of their games and they’ll be looking to maintain their status in Level I on Saturday when they face Malaysia.
