Indonesia beat Malaysia, secure Level II top spot

BANGKOK, Thailand (FIBA Asia U18 Championship for Women 2016)- Indonesia sealed Level II top spot after beating Malaysia 74-54 on the Final day of Level II Group play on Thursday.

Consequently, Indonesia will face India in the Level I promotion game on Saturday, while Malaysia will clash wits with hosts Thailand.

Both came into this game with a 4-0 record, but at the end of the day it was Indonesia who maintained their clean record.

Arif Gunarto’s girls didn’t waste any time to impose their authority on the game. They made an early 12-0 allowing them to lead 22-8 at the end of the 1st quarter. Singapore improved a little in the second quarter, but that was the most they could do as Indonesia pulled away in the second half for the win.

Jovita Elizabeth once again led the team, scoring 24 points in addition to 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Christine Aldora Tjundawan added another 13.

Kazakhstan, meanwhile, beat winless Sri Lanka 92-53 to end their FIBA Asia U18 Championship for women 2016 campaign on a high note.

Sri Lanka trailed by only 4 points at the end of the 1st quarter, but Kazakhstan erupted in the second quarter, outscoring their opponents 22-9 for a comfortable half-time lead. Sri Lanka never managed to recover after that while Kazakhstan succeeded in increasing their lead and go on to win 92-53

Tournament leading rebounder Karina Olenberg had 13 rebounds in the game. She also led the game with 19 points. Dynamic point guard Madina Baibolekova, meanwhile, contributed with 16 points 6 assists and 7 steals.

Hong Kong also ended their campaign with a win, beating Singapore 70-36.

Lai Nga Man recorded a double-double, 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Wong Nga Man Christie had 14.
