Brancou Badio warns Senegal can't be too overconfident

KIGALI (Rwanda) - Former African champions Senegal are on the path to redeeming their lost glory as a force to be reckoned with in Africa basketball.

Senegal closed their Group Phase run with a respectable 3-0.

They have maintained an excellent performance, which has seen them keep a clean slate ahead of the Quarter-Finals against Angola on Tuesday.

"I LOVE TO GIVE MY HUNDRED PERCENT PERFORMANCE IN EVERY SITUATION EVEN IN BARCELONA, THAT'S HOW I PLAY."
- Brancou Badio

The Lions, who last won the AfroBasket back in 1997 on home-court in  Dakar,  are poised not to let the opportunity slip off their fingers this time as the 30th edition of the tournament provides them a very good ground to realize that dream.

However, point guard Brancou Badio who plays for FC Barcelona in Spain's ACB League, says their approach to make their dream come through is to take each game one step at a time and should never be too overconfident.

The 22-year-old, who average 23.7 minutes with an incredible 18.3 points and 6.3 assists per game, is not one player to be ignored.

He described the AfroBasket 2021holding at the Kigali Arena as a very tough tournament even though he is making his debut at the Championship.

The fast dribbling guard with excellent ball handling skills is a delight to watch on the court.

He took some of his busy schedule to talk to FIBA.basketball.

Badio explained how it all began for him as a young boy.

"Honestly, I am appreciative of the Senegalese technical crew for finding me worthy to be selected to the national team among the arrays of star players Senegal is blessed across the globe and I told myself never to let them and myself down," the 1.94m (6ft 4in) guard said.

Brancou Badio

"I have no fear factor playing on the same team with great players such as Maurice Ndour, Gorgui Dieng, Youssou Ndoye, Ibrahim Faye among others. I love to give my hundred percent performance in every situation even in Barcelona that's how I play.

"Basketball for me started when I was age seven going to gym with my elder sister and later went to the CBA Academy before I landed in one of the biggest clubs in Europe, Barcelona.

"About the future, I am willing to continue giving my best at every point in time and always make myself available for future national team engagement."
