Stage set for Quarter-Final showdown at FIBA Africa Champions Cup 2017 Zone 5 qualifiers

KAMPALA (FIBA Africa Champions Cup 2017) - The battle for a place in the Semi-Finals at the FIBA Africa Champions Cup zone 5 qualifiers gets underway on Thursday at the Lugogo Indoor Arena.

Tanzanian side ABC will be looking to overcome Patriots of Rwanda in the first Quarter-Final but face an uphill task against a side that is a pre-tournament title favorite.

Daruweshi Shamuni Ali's side has been a force to reckon with despite losing two games therein coming close to overcoming Kenya Ports Authority in their Group B tie.

The last eight encounter presents a chance for them to seek redemption and get past the Rwandan champions who have showcased the potential to go all the way and contest for the trophy if their performance against the defending champions City Oilers in the last Group A tie is anything to go by.

The Oilers take on Ethiopian outfit Gondar City looking to make it four straight wins at the regional tournament.

"The knockout stages are usually full of surprises as everyone is doing their best to proceed to the next round ."- Omony

In an interview with FIBA.basketball, Oilers shooting guard Stephen Omony said, "We have no option but to respect them, play hard and ensure that we qualify for the Semi-Finals."

"The knockout stages are usually full of surprises as everyone is doing their best to proceed to the next round", Omony said.

Savio of Tanzania will be up against Kenya Ports Authority in the other Quarter-Final while Betway Power will be looking to maintain their unbeaten run when they take on Hawassa City from Ethiopia.
