Betway Power set up Patriots date, KPA face City Oilers test in Semi-Finals

KAMPALA (FIBA Africa Champions Cup 2017) - Betway Power remained unbeaten at the ongoing FIBA Africa Champions Cup 2017 Zone 5 qualifiers following their convincing 84-44 victory over the winless Hawassa City on Thursday in the Ugandan capital city of Kampala.

The Ugandan representatives got off to a flying start with a 21-12 lead at the end of the first quarter and a 45-14 scoreline at the half-time mark was enough to indicate their intentions thus far.

Hawassa City, cheered on by the home crowd out of empathy, performed rather entertaining acts in the lead up to the basket but their poor finishing did not do them any favors as they registered 20 turnovers and allowed Betway Power to pick 33 defensive rebounds.

Betway Power center Mike Makiadi scored a game high 17 points and picked seven rebounds while assistant captain Paul Odong added 14 points and made six assists.

Reigning champions City Oilers cruised to a 98-52 win over Gondar City from Ethiopia to maintain a 100% winning ratio at the regional tournament.

Oilers head coach Mandy Juruni opted to rest center Adarius Pegues and shooting guard Stephen Omony for the whole game while fringe players like Jonah Otim and Daniel Juuko had a field day on court.

Two-time FIBA Africa Zone 5 MVP Landry Ndikumana and James Okello each scored 14 points for the Oilers while Otim added 13 points. Captain Jimmy Enabu and Jordan Mayez each scored 12 points to ensure their side won comfortably.

Meanwhile, Patriots overcame a stubborn ABC side 68-50 to book their place in the last four and remain on course to qualify for the Final Round.

Center Kami Kabange and Walter Nkurunziza sunk 11 points while shooting guard Lionel Hakizimana came off the bench to contribute 10 points as Henry Mwinuka's outfit marched into the Semi-Finals.

City Oilers will be up against Kenya Ports Authority while Patriots will take on Betway Power in the battle for a place in the Final on Saturday.
