Do or die time: What to look out for on the last day of the Group Phase

LJUBLJANA / TEL AVIV (Slovenia / Israel) - For many nations, the third day of action at the FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2023 will determine whether their dreams of success are shattered or continue to live on.

While co-hosts Slovenia already know they are eliminated and France have already made it directly to the Quarter-Finals, there is so much to play for when it comes to everyone else.

Check out all the permutations here for the last day of the Group Phase.

Group A (Tel Aviv)

Montenegro vs Latvia - 11:15 CET (12:15 local)
Spain vs Greece - 19:45 CET (20:45 local)

Group B (Tel Aviv)

Belgium vs Italy - 14:15 CET (15:15 local)
Czech Republic vs Israel - 17:00 CET (18:00 local)

Group C (Ljubljana)

Germany vs Great Britain  - 12.15 CET
Slovenia vs France - 18:00 CET

Group D (Ljubljana)

Hungary vs Serbia - 15:00 CET
Turkey vs Slovakia - 20:45 CET

Game of the Day: Hungary v Serbia

Hungary must still be kicking themselves for letting Turkey off the hook and going down to a 69-68 Group D defeat in a game they could and surely should have won. They failed to find a 'killer instinct' when they were on top and briefly leading by double digits. Leaving the back door open, they got punished by Teaira McCowan in particular and are now 1-1 instead of 2-0 like Serbia.

However, if they can respond with a victory on Day 3, they could still potentially take top spot and qualify directly for the Quarter-Finals. Since they not only need to win, but most likely need to do so by 5 points, it will be a tough ask against an unbeaten Serbian team who destroyed Slovakia. The reigning champs will still be favorites to make the last eight, but it should be a great match up to watch.

Question of the Day

Facts of the Day

- Germany will try to win successive games in the competition for the first time in 26 years when they go up against Great Britain.

- In their last game against Israel, there were 13 downtown scores by Italy, who have never previously made more than 10 in any of their previous 66 games in the tournament.

- Israel's losing streak has been extended to 22 games and they will be trying to end the streak with a matchup against Czech Republic on Sunday.

- Spain made 13 triples in their last game against Montenegro and that was the most long-range baskets they have scored in the last 30 years of the FIBA Women's EuroBasket.

- Slovakia have never finished a Group Phase in the competition without at least one win and will have to avoid losing to Turkey if they want that to continue.

What happened on Day 2?

- Plenty of teams got their first wins of the tournament, including Germany getting one after a 12-year wait. There was also that heartache for co-hosts Slovenia who were eliminated after barely 24 hours having lost their first two outings. It was celebrated by France though as they grabbed a ticket straight to the last eight.

- Cecilia Zandalasini broke and Italian scoring record that had stood for more than four decades as she dropped 33 points against Israel to lead the Top Performers on the first day of action. Check out the other standout performances from Day 2 here.
