    Reynan Santos, Calderon, Klafke, Tesch highlight Brazil hopefuls

    Brazil head coach Vitor Galvani has invited 20 players to start training camp ahead of their return to the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup this summer, topped by Reynan Santos.

    RIO DE JANEIRO (Brazil) - Brazil head coach Vitor Galvani has invited 20 players to start training camp ahead of their return to the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup this summer, topped by Reynan Santos, Samis Calderon, Eduardo Klafke and Guilherme Tesch.

    Galvani guided Brazil to second place at the FIBA U18 Americas Championship 2022 and their ninth appearance on the U19 global stage and first since 2013.

    Lucas Atauri, Enrico Borio, Winicius Braga, Vitor Brandao, Gabriel Caldeira, Samis Calderon, Victor Caua, Gabriel Ferreira, Luis Guiherme, Gustavo Guimaraes, Victor Hugo, Leandro Inacio, Eduardo Klafke, Gabriel Landeira, Richard Morina, Kaique Pereira, Reynan dos Santos, Vinicius dos Santos, Breno Silva, Guilherme Tesch


    Included among the 20 players are 10 who are back from the U18 team last summer. The leader will be Santos, who was named to the All-Star Five for his outstanding showing. Santos, who was named MVP of the FIBA U18 South American Championship 2022, appeared in six games for Franca in the Basketball Champions League Americas and averaged 2.6 points in 8 minutes.

    But Galvani's group features some other interesting talents. Among them are Calderon, who was named as Best Defensive Player of the 2023 Basketball Without Borders Global camp, Klafke and Tesch as well as Leandro Inacio and Gabriel Landeira.

    One of the players not back from the U18 FIBA Americas team is Breno Silva, who was on the U18 South American squad from earlier last summer. Silva is one of four players who attend the NBA Academy in Mexico along with Calderon, Klafke and Gabriel Ferreira.

    One new name of note is Richard Morina, who is playing for Italian club Trento while Enrico Borio is playing high school basketball in the United States for North Broward Prep in Floria.

    Galvani also invited five players who will play for Brazil's U17 team this summer.

    Brazil have been drawn into Group C with Egypt, Japan and Serbia. The U19 World Cup runs from June 24 to July 2.
