A buzzer-beater layup from Martín Rojas gave Uruguay its second win over Panama, but shooting guard Joaquín Rodríguez had a lot to do with the team being in position for that final shot. The 26-year-old knocked down 5 of 11 from three-point range and was perfect from the free-throw line (6–6). His efficiency rating of 35 is the third-highest ever recorded in the Americas Qualifiers.
Georginho De Paula is no stranger to stuffing the stat sheet in any setting, and once again he made his presence felt for Brazil. The point forward shot 6-for-10 from the field, including 5-for-7 on two-pointers and 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. He also added a steal and a block. On a day with only two games, three Panamanian players took advantage and climbed into the top five in efficiency, despite their team’s painful last-second loss to Uruguay. Jhivvan Jackson knocked down 5 of 11 from beyond the arc (46 percent), recorded a block and came up with a steal. Akil Mitchell shot 5-for-11 from the field and paired his double-double with a block and a steal, while Eric Romero was efficient at 6-for-9 from the floor, came up just one rebound shy of a double-double, and added a block.
