Tall Blacks survive late scare
New Zealand looked to be in control after taking a 66-61 lead into the fourth quarter, but Iran refused to go quietly. The game featured nine lead changes and 13 ties before the Tall Blacks finally prevailed in overtime. Shea Ili and Sam Mennenga led the way for New Zealand with 24 and 15 points respectively.
Iran's Mohammad Amini hit the driving lay-up with two minutes left in regulation to tie the score, with neither team unable to score the rest of the way. Overtime came down to the wire, with New Zealand outscoring Iran 13-11 to escape with the two-point victory.
Gilas pull off overtime comeback
If the first game was a back-and-forth battle, the second was a full-blown comeback story. Jordan raced out to a 26-8 advantage in middle of the opening quarter and still led by four heading into the fourth, but the Philippines steadily clawed their way back before forcing overtime.
Freddy Ibrahim was outstanding for Jordan with 22 points, but Kai Sotto's return to the national team proved decisive. The big man delivered 18 points, 14 rebounds and 2 blocks, helping Gilas edge the Falcons by a single point in overtime.
