TUNIS (Tunisia) – Tunisia emerged victorious in the FIBA Africa Zone 1 qualifiers, securing an automatic spot in the 2025 FIBA U16 AfroBasket.
The final round will take place in Kigali, Rwanda, from September 2-14.
This will be Tunisia's second consecutive appearance in the tournament; they hosted the final round in Monastir two years ago.
Tunisia finished undefeated in three games against Morocco and Algeria. Libya forfeited the qualifiers.
Tunisia beat Algeria 61-47 and narrowly defeated Morocco 94-93 on the final day.
Tunisia’s point guard, Adem Rafrafi, was the star of the qualifiers, scoring a combined total of 58 points in two games.
Against Algeria, he played 30:04 minutes and finished with a double-double: 14 points and 11 rebounds. Against Morocco, he scored a game-high 44 points and had 16 rebounds.
Rafrafi, who plays for Etoile Sportive Goulettoise in Tunisia, will be a player to watch when the championship begins in Kigali.
Tunisia will seek to improve upon their one silver and one bronze medal from 2011 and 2013, respectively, in their seventh appearance. At the last championship in Monastir, Tunisia, in 2023, they placed ninth on the final table.
Morocco placed second with a 2–1 record and five points, while Algeria placed third with four points from a walkover against Libya and losses to Tunisia and Morocco.
Tunisia joins host Rwanda, Côte d'Ivoire, Angola, Sierra Leone, Cameroon, South Africa, Uganda, Egypt, Mali, and defending champions Guinea.
