SABAIL (Azerbaijan) - It's a busy stretch on the FIBA 3x3 Women's Series 2025 calendar as the business end of the season approaches and the action heightens with the Sabail Stop on August 23-24.
Let's preview all the action of the 13th stop on this season's Women's Series. The Favorites
We haven't seen No.1 Netherlands since early July. Here's a recap: they've won three of five stops this season for a record of 21-3. Oh and the Dutchwomen also took out their first World Cup.
After a deserved breather, the Netherlands are ready for the final stretch starting in Sabail. The game's best player Noortje Driessen will be out to stamp her status as number one and don't expect her to have any rust.
The Netherlands have an incredible pipeline of talent with their U25 team also a strong title threat, as Zoe Slagter emerges as a superstar.
Host Azerbaijan have been on a roll having won titles at their last two WS Stops and they will be even tougher to beat on their half-court.
Latvia are winners on this season's WS so just have to be treated seriously, while Czechia have proven they are more than capable of going on deep runs.
The Field
The draw is deep with Poland having flexed their muscles with a semi-final finish at the World Cup.
Aleksandra Zięmborska is one of the very best players on the planet but she will have to ball in a field that also includes Asian powerhouse China, who have made the quarters in all four Stops this season.
The Philippines are always supported with much fanaticism and it's little wonder when they have magician Kaye Pingol stealing the show. Don't discount those in the QD from making a giant-killing run, with Mongolia and Egypt more than capable of turning up the volume if they qualify into the main draw.
