MIAMI (United States) – Six national teams will compete in the FIBA U16 Women’s AmeriCup 2027 South American Qualifiers, which will take place from November 11–15 on Margarita Island, Venezuela. The tournament will feature Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Uruguay, and host nation Venezuela in a competition that is part of FIBA Americas' new youth competition system, introduced this year to strengthen the development of youth basketball across the region. The six teams will compete in a single round-robin group. Each team will play one game against every other opponent, and the nation that finishes first in the standings will earn a direct berth to the FIBA U16 Women's AmeriCup 2027. A second berth may be awarded depending on the designation of the host nation for the continental tournament, which will be announced at a later date. This qualifier replaces the former FIBA South American U15 Women's Championship and represents one of the key innovations of the new competition model for youth basketball in the Americas. As part of this new system, Argentina and Brazil will not participate in the tournament, having already secured direct qualification for the FIBA U16 Women's AmeriCup 2027 after occupying the top two South American positions in the historical U16 category rankings, effective January 1, 2026. The team that finishes first on Margarita Island will join Argentina and Brazil as South America's representatives at the FIBA U16 Women's AmeriCup 2027.
