FIBA U16 Women’s AmeriCup 2027 South American Qualifier headed to Venezuela

From November 9–15, Margarita Island will welcome South America's top young talent as teams battle for qualification to the FIBA U16 Women's AmeriCup 2027.

MIAMI (United States) – The FIBA Regional Office in the Americas announced that the FIBA U16 Women's AmeriCup 2027 South American Qualifier, formerly known as the FIBA U15 South American Women's Championship, will take place from November 9-15 in Margarita Island, Venezuela. The tournament will be played under FIBA Americas’ new youth competition system, introduced this year to strengthen the development of youth basketball across the region. Under this new format, the competition will award one direct berth to the FIBA U16 Women’s AmeriCup 2027 and could grant a second spot, depending on the designation of the continental tournament host, which will be announced at a later date. Participation will be open to all national federations belonging to the South American Basketball Confederation (CONSUBASQUET). National federations must complete the corresponding registration process to secure their participation. Argentina and Brazil will not participate in the qualifier after securing direct berths to the FIBA U16 Women's AmeriCup 2027 as the two highest-ranked South American nations in the historic U16 standing, valid as of January 1, 2026. That historic standing served as the reference point for implementing FIBA Americas' new youth competition system. FIBA
