Eight participants ready for Bangkok tilt

BEIRUT (Lebanon) - The FIBA Regional Office-Asia on Tuesday, June 16, has confirmed the 8 participating nations in the FIBA U18 Women's Asia Cup-Division B 2026 to be held in Bangkok, Thailand on July 13-19.

The teams and groupings are as follows:

Group A: Indonesia, India, Thailand, Oman Group B: Samoa, Cook Islands, Lebanon, Kazakhstan

Indonesia are bannering the ensemble as it would be their first foray in Division B following an 8th-place finish in the FIBA U18 Asia Cup 2024-Division A in China, in which they lost to Malaysia in the relegation game.

Also hoping to write their own redemption story are India, who are keen to make it back to Division A after being sent to the second division by Timnas during the FIBA U18 Asia Cup 2022 in Bengaluru.

It was also the last time that Thailand took part in the biennial meet and now, they could try to make a run in earning the promotion with the tourney set to be held in their own stomping grounds.

Meanwhile, 2 of the podium finishers from the previous Division B competition, namely runners-up Lebanon and third-placers Samoa, are back for another campaign, dreaming to finally get the ticket to Division A.

Also returning are Kazakhstan, who settled for silver behind India in 2018 in Bengaluru as well. Squads set to make their maiden appearances in the competition, on the other hand, are the Cook Islands and Oman.
