COLOMBO (Sri Lanka) – India maintained their stranglehold in the Sub-Zone scheme of things in the women’s competitions with a clean sweep of all the four games, including the title contest in the FIBA U18 Women’s Asia Cup 2026 Division – SABA Qualifiers the past weekend.
India thus earned the right to represent the Sub-Zone in the FIBA U18 Women’s Asia Cup 2026 – Division B scheduled to be played in Bangkok (Thailand) from July 13-19 this year.
India began their campaign in the Group Phase with a whirlwind 74-44 win over Sri Lanka and followed it up with a 110-24 rout of Maldives to finish on the top the round-robin.
Sri Lanka defeated Maldives 74-44 to finish second and earned the right to fight India for the top spot.
In the all-important title contest, it was Sri Lanka who seized the initiative racing ahead 20-16 at the end of the first quarter. But India shrugged off the initial blues and struck wonted rhythm with a 30-12 second quarter blitz and took firm control of the game and eventually won 83-57.
