PITESTI (Romania) - History repeated itself in Pitesti as Spain overcame Slovenia in the Final for a second consecutive year to retain their FIBA U16 Women's EuroBasket crown.
Spain capped another dominant campaign in emphatic fashion, claiming an 87-40 victory in a repeat of the 2025 title game.
The champions went unbeaten throughout the tournament, winning all seven of their games by an average margin of 68.7 points on their way to another place on top of the podium.
The triumph marked Spain's 12th title in the competition's history and extended their record as the most successful nation at the event. It was also their seventh consecutive podium finish and a landmark 20th medal overall.
Spain's latest success also continued an impressive summer for the nation's women's youth teams, following their triumph at this year's FIBA U18 Women's EuroBasket in Stockholm and a third-place finish at the FIBA U20 Women's EuroBasket in Lithuania.
For Slovenia, it was a second consecutive silver medal after they also finished runners-up to Spain in Pitesti last year. Those two results remain their only podium finishes in the history of the competition.
Amelia Alonso of Spain was crowned the tournament's Most Valuable Player after averaging 15.0 points, 7.4 rebounds and 3.3 steals for an average efficiency of 16.3 to lead her team to the title.
She also headlined a talented All-Star Five, alongside teammate Paula Reynal, Slovenia's Veronika Ferjancic, France's Kimberly Kanayan N'Simba and Latvia's Nadine Graudina.
France completed the podium with a 78-58 victory over Latvia in the Third-Place Game, returning to the medals after a one-year absence.
Meanwhile, Italy, Israel and Romania were relegated to Division B after finishing in the Classification 13-16 bracket. Bulgaria also finished in the bottom four, but will retain their Division A status as hosts of next year's event.
They will be replaced by newly promoted Belgium, Greece and Portugal, the winners of each of the three Division B tournaments.
