Berglind Hlynsdottir stepped it up for Iceland in their 86-79 win over Italy, which helped them to a 2-1 record in Group C. The talented guard had 32 points on 13-for-20 shooting, 6 rebounds, 7 assists and 2 blocks in a deserved victory.
Free-scoring Gal Raviv was at it again, steering Israel’s late surge to snatch a monumental 74-71 win over Lithuania. After taking their first lead with 57 seconds to go, Raviv then scored the team’s final five points to claim the win. The guard ended with 35 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals in an all-round masterclass.
Despite the heartbreaking loss, dominant Lithuania center Gabija Galvanauskaite secured her second double-double of the tournament, as she had 19 points on 72 percent shooting and 13 rebounds, but the hosts finish Group A, 1-2.
Despite going down 88-55 to holders Spain, Croatia’s Lea Vukic was outstanding as the Yale University standout posted an impressive double-double of 20 points on 6-for-11 shooting to go with 13 rebounds. Despite her efforts, she couldn’t help her side avoid falling to their third straight defeat.
Playing a superb support cast to Galvanauskaite was Lithuania guard Sintija Aukstikalnyte, who had a strong outing for the hosts. The guard went 3-for-4 from beyond the arc and 9-for-14 from the field to end on 21 points along with 9 rebounds in the defeat to the Israelis.
