MANAGUA (Nicaragua) – Puerto Rico captured their sixth FIBA Women's AmeriCup Centrobasket Qualifiers title after defeating Mexico 82-68 in the Final of the 2026 edition, held on Saturday at the Polideportivo Alexis Argüello in Managua, Nicaragua. It marked the Puerto Rican team's fifth consecutive championship in the tournament, further cementing their recent dominance in the Central American and Caribbean region. Puerto Rico's previous FIBA Women's AmeriCup Centrobasket Qualifiers titles came in 2010, 2018, 2021, 2022 and 2024. The team also defeated Mexico in the 2022 Final. Mexico, meanwhile, claimed their 10th silver medal. Imani McGee-Stafford (PUR) was named the Most Valuable Player of the FIBA Women's AmeriCup 2027 Centrobasket Qualifiers. The center was selected to the All-Star Five alongside Mariana Valenzuela (MEX), Cesarina Capellán (DOM), Anisha George (ISV) and Kiyomi McMiller (NCA). In the third-place game, the Dominican Republic defeated the Virgin Islands 102-69 to earn the bronze medal for the 10th time. With the victory, the Dominican team secured the third and final available berth to the FIBA Women's AmeriCup 2027.
