Portugal overcame Finland in a tense Division B Final

Portugal secured the third and final promotion spot in Division B.

BERTRANGE (Luxembourg) - Portugal fought back from a nine-point deficit to beat Finland 65-57 in the Final of the FIBA U16 Women's EuroBasket 2026, Division B Tournament 2 to seal the third and last promotion spot to next summer's Division A.

In a game where Finland had enjoyed the lead for the majority, they couldn't wear down a stubborn Portugal side, who stayed at arm's length and, in periods of the third quarter, had even taken slender leads.

Neither team built a lead bigger than nine points going into the final quarter, and even in the early exchanges of the fourth, neither team could break away in a tense, scrappy affair.

With 3:39 to play, a three-pointer from Teresa Panzo gave Portugal a 55-53 lead, only for Aida Kimario to respond in kind for Finland on the next possession.

In a game where nerves of steel were mandatory, Portugal were more motivated, taking their chances down the stretch to claim the Tournament 2 title.

Elsewhere, Ukraine secured third place, as they triumphed 77-67 over the Netherlands. Yelyzaveta Puhach led the victors with 25 points and 6 rebounds. Veronique Schutte had 14 for the Dutch.
