Malta recaptured the crown having lost in the 2024 Final

It's a fourth title at the event for Malta to add their previous triumphs in 2008, 2010 and 2016.

PEJA (Kosovo) - Malta claimed the FIBA Women’s European Championship for Small Countries 2026 title after defeating Albania 72-55 in the Final in Peja.

The 2024 runners-up built a 44-23 halftime lead after using a 12-0 run to create separation during the opening half.

MVP Amber Melgoza once again starred for Malta with 29 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals, helping the unbeaten side establish momentum early in the championship game.

Malta combined efficient transition scoring with strong defensive pressure throughout much of the contest, while Albania struggled to find offensive rhythm before halftime.

Albania showed more resistance after the break and reduced the deficit to 12 points late in the fourth quarter, but Malta responded once again in the closing minutes.

Ylenia Bonett delivered a crucial late stretch with seven straight points, including two key three-pointers, to help Malta pull away and seal the victory.

Albania were led by Bernarda Rreshpja's 17 points, while tournament standout Ornela Lalaj was held to 8 points and 13 rebounds in the defeat.

Earlier, hosts Kosovo claimed the bronze medal with an 86-52 victory over Armenia, while Georgia secured fifth place after defeating Andorra 78-57.
