RIGA (Latvia) - Dennis Schroder and Germany have had an amazing ride the last four summers and it culminated with the FIBA EuroBasket 2025 title.
But the tournament Most Valuable Player Schroder said this country is not done winning.
"We want to keep up this standard and win more awards," said Schroder after collecting 16 points, 3 rebounds and 12 assists in Germany's 88-83 victory over Türkiye in the Final.
Germany took third place at the EuroBasket 2022 and then won the title at the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023. That was followed by fourth place at the 2024 Olympics and now the championship in Riga - giving the country two EuroBasket championships along with 1993.
The win means Germany hold the EuroBasket and FIBA Basketball World Cup crowns simultaneously.
"This is a special group. It's like a field trip. Everybody loves coming and playing. Two triumphs at the same time is amazing. We are really a team, the best team I have ever played with. Awesome guys and awesome characters. You can't ask for anything more."
After a poor first quarter, Schroder stepped up in the final 20 minutes, scoring 14 of his 16 points. But the captain knows he was just one part of the win.
"We never shy away from the big moments. Not just me but the whole team. That is just big," said Schroder, who celebrated his 32nd birthday.
"It's a privilege to represent Germany. I want to do it until I am 40."
When asked how his legacy compares with that of former Germany star Dirk Nowitzki, he said: "I'm Dennis Schroder, and everybody has their own legacy," he said. "At the end of the day my name is Dennis Schroder and I am just Dennis Schroder and that is my legacy."
