RIGA (Latvia) - Dennis Schroder's legacy as Germany captain added breathtaking chapter as he was named the Most Valuable Player of the FIBA EuroBasket 2025 for leading Germany to their first title since 1993.
Schroder put together another outstanding performance in Germany's 88-83 victory over Türkiye in the Final with 16 points - 14 of them coming in the second half, 3 rebounds, a championship-record 12 assists and 1 steal.
Schroder became the third German player to win the MVP award following Chris Welp of the 1993 title-winning team and Dirk Nowitzki for guiding the country to second place in 2005.
The German captain stood out the entire tournament for the world champions, averaging 20.3 points, 3.4 rebounds, 7.2 assists and 0.8 steals.
He showed his playmaking skills in the late stages of the tournament with 12 assists in both the Semi-Finals and the Final. Both performances set the record for the most assists at that stage since the start of tracking stats in 1995.
Schroder's 16 points in the Final also gave him 631 points in his EuroBasket career, moving to 25th place on the all-time leaderboard.
Schroder, who won the MVP award at the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023, topped the All-Star Five where he was joined by teammate Franz Wagner, Alperen Sengun of Türkiye, Greece's Giannis Antetokounmpo and Luka Doncic from Slovenia.
Schroder also was a member of the All-Star Five at the EuroBasket 2022, where Germany took third place.
