ABIDJAN (Cote d'Ivoire) - A full picture of the group phase was clear by the time Suzane Dembele grabbed a defensive rebound with three seconds left in Mali's 62-57 win over Egypt.
That was the last of four games on Monday in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire.
Mali joined Cameroon and Côte d'Ivoire as one of three undefeated teams during the group phase of the 2026 U18 Women's AfroBasket.
Earlier that day, Mali narrowly defeated Egypt in the highly anticipated Group B matchup. Meanwhile, hosts Côte d'Ivoire easily overpowered Kenya 66-28 in the Group A matchup.
With Group C having finished on Sunday, Monday was all about Groups A and B.
In the first Group A game of the day, Uganda defeated the Central African Republic 86-43. Uganda improved to 2-1, advancing to the quarterfinals as the second-place team in the group.
Later in the day, Côte d'Ivoire demolished Kenya by 38 points to finish top of the group.
Cote d'Ivoire and Uganda advanced to the quarterfinals as the winner and runner-up of Group A, respectively.
In Group B's first game, Morocco secured their first victory of the tournament with a 59-45 win over Benin, followed by Mali's 62-57 upset over Egypt.
Mali and Egypt advanced to the Last Eight as the winner and runner-up of Group B, respectively.
Monday's win marked Mali's fifteenth consecutive victory, dating back to the 2020 tournament. The West African team's last loss occurred in the 2020 tournament final against hosts Egypt.
