ISTANBUL (Türkiye) - Lithuania were crowned FIBA U16 Women's EuroBasket 2025, Division B champions while hosts Türkiye clinched the final promotion spot after emerging victorious in the Third Place Game on Friday.
After securing promotion a day earlier, Lithuania and Bulgaria faced off in the battle for the title. The Baltic nation prevailed 77-60 thanks in great part to a strong performance in the second half.
The two teams traded blows in the first half and Bulgaria grabbed the slimmest of leads, 32-31, at the interval after erasing a double-digit deficit. Lithuania however used a third-quarter run to pull away decisively and secure the title.
Tournament MVP Gabija Galvanauskaite was once Lithuania's best performer, producing a monster double-double of 21 points and 21 rebounds. The small forward had a lot of help from Urte Gureviciute, who scored 23 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out 4 assists. Katarina Bozova tallied 20 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists in a losing effort for Bulgaria, who secured promotion despite their loss in the final.
The third ticket to Division A landed in the hands of Türkiye, who earlier on Friday redeemed themselves for their semi-final loss with a 54-46 victory over Switzerland in the Third Place Game. The hosts return to the elite after narrowly missing out last summer, when they finished in 4th place in Konya.
Switzerland led early on and by as many as 9 points, but the hosts managed to turn things around before the break and remained in the driver's seat the rest of the way, fueled by Esma Tanriverdi's double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds.
