Jamaica, Guyana open strong at FIBA CBC Women’s Championship 2025

    Both teams claimed decisive wins over Suriname and Bahamas on Day 1, as the road to the FIBA Women’s Centrobasket 2026 begins.

    GEORGETOWN (Guyana) – Jamaica and host nation Guyana started this year’s FIBA Women’s Caribbean Championship strong, each claiming wins on opening day. The tournament runs through Sunday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall in Georgetown, Guyana and will award three berths to the FIBA Women’s Centrobasket Championship 2026. Opening day results:

    Suriname 47 – 86 Jamaica

    Jamaica was in full control from start to finish, securing the first win of the tournament with a commanding margin. The Jamaican team dominated in key statistical categories such as rebounds (43–19), assists (19–3), and steals (10–4). Tiffany Reynolds led the charge with 26 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists, posting an efficiency rating of 29.

    Other top performers for Jamaica included Jessica Fairweather, who recorded 15 points, 4 assists, and 2 rebounds while shooting 3-of-4 from beyond the arc, and Sasha Dixon, who contributed 12 points, 8 assists, 4 steals, and 3 rebounds. For Suriname, Shakya Peroti finished with 14 points, and 3 rebounds.

    Guyana 102 – 75 Bahamas

    In the night’s second game, Guyana delivered a dominant performance in front of their home crowd, defeating Bahamas in impressive fashion. The Ramlall sisters— Amisha, Arshia, and Ashna led the way, combining for 58 of Guyana’s 102 points. Amisha Ramlall starred with 33 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists, including an outstanding 6-of-8 from three-point range. Arshia and Ashna added 13 and 12 points, respectively. Ruth Adams also had a solid outing with 22 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists.

    For Bahamas, the strong efforts of Valerie Nesbitt and Lashann Higgs were not enough, despite scoring 35 and 23 points, respectively. The tournament continues on Thursday with the following matchups: Bahamas vs. Suriname – 4:30 p.m. (local time) Virgin Islands vs. Guyana – 8:30 p.m.
