AMMAN (Jordan) - Iran huffed and puffed before surviving a Syrian scare 72-68, as Asian Qualifiers action resumed ahead of Window 3.
Iran led by 11 in the first half against Syria, before the tables turned in the second. Led by guard Donte Mc Gill and forward Mohamad Bilal Atli, Syria staged a remarkable third quarter, outscoring Iran 25-12. But Iran closed out strong in the final 10 minutes to avoid any scope of a massive upset.
With Jordan following up with a dominant win over Iraq, Team Melli are assured of a spot in the Second Round for the third straight time.
Jordan are 4-0 and at the top of Group C, with Iran following at 3-1.
