REYKJAVIK (Iceland) - Has there ever been a Lithuanian game that has not finished by a single point margin?
Make it 3-of-3 in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 European Qualifiers, as Iceland took down Lithuania 86-85, thanks to a buzzer-beating two-pointer by Elvar Fridriksson, on Friday night.
Lithuania led by 21 points, took the lead early in the second quarter, but could not seal the deal against the stubborn Icelanders.
To add insult to injury, it was one of their own hitting the game winner. Fridriksson spent the 2020-21 season with Siauliai and moved to Rytas Vilnius in 2022-23, getting to know the ins and outs of Lithuanian basketball.
The buzzer-beater capped off an amazing night for him: 34 points and 6 assists, taking Iceland to 2-1, while pushing Lithuania to 1-2 in the process.
