MIAMI (United States) – Spanish coach Francisco “Curro” Segura has been appointed to lead Venezuela’s national team, the Venezuelan Basketball Federation (FVB) announced. Segura will take charge ahead of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Americas Qualifiers first window, which will be played between November 27 and December 1. In that opening window, Venezuela will visit Colombia on the 27th in Cali, and then host the same opponent in Caracas on the 30th. Both teams compete in Group C along with Brazil and Chile. Segura, 53, has coached in the first and second divisions of the Spanish leagues, as well as in China, Uruguay, Greece, Egypt, and Venezuela. At the national-team level, he previously coached Kuwait’s senior squad in 2014. The Spanish coach replaces Venezuelan Ronald Guillén, who led the national team for 11 months. During that period, he coached the FIBA AmeriCup 2025 Qualifiers third window and the FIBA AmeriCup 2025, finishing with a record of three wins and two losses.
