    HERAKLION (Greece) - Action at the FIBA U20 EuroBasket 2025 tipped off on Saturday, continuing an exciting summer of Youth EuroBasket action. Tournament hosts Greece were among the winners on the opening day of action, as defending champs France also got off to a vitorious start.

    • Germany scored a thriller win over Ukraine, Italy turned it around over Belgium;

    Top Performers

    Despite Spain failing to Israel 79-74 on the opening day, Lucas Langarita had himself quite a show. He tallied 28 points with 6 rebounds and 4 assists and an efficiency of 29 in a futile effort to turn the game around.

    Iceland's Karl Sigurtharson shot the lights out with seven made three-pointers in a 90-76 loss to Serbia. In total, the guard scored 28 points, dishing out 3 assists in the process of obtaining an efficiency of 28. His teammate Frithrik Curtis dominated the paint with the near double-double of 17 points and 9 rebounds, but Iceland couldn't avoid defeat nonetheless.

    Jakub Szumert of Poland was matched by none when it came to sweeping up under the glass. The power forward grabbed 18 rebounds, adding that to 10 points and 4 dimes for an efficiency of 25 in Poland's 78-66 opening day win over Finland.

    Neoklis Avdalas represents the event hosts Greece in the Top Performers lineup. With 17 points, 7 assists and 5 rebounds, he was the leading force in a smooth 84-65 victory over Lithuania.
