MIES (Switzerland) – The FIBA Executive Committee has confirmed the host cities for the four FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2026 Qualifying Tournaments, which will be held in Istanbul, Türkiye; Lyon-Villeurbanne, France; San Juan, Puerto Rico; and Wuhan, China.
Each of the four host cities will stage one Women's World Cup Qualifying Tournament with six teams, scheduled to take place from March 11 to 17, 2026.
All four hosts bring strong credentials in international basketball events: Türkiye hosted the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup in 2014 and most recently the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup in 2024, and will host again the U17 tournament next year; France which hosted the FIBA Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Bourges in 2020, will welcome basketball back following the hugely popular Paris 2024 Olympic Games; San Juan was a host city for one of the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in 2024; and Wuhan was one of the host cities for the FIBA Basketball World Cup in 2019.
The 24 national teams for the highly anticipated Qualifying Tournaments were confirmed recently, with the last remaining spots in the qualifiers earned through strong performances in the Continental Cup competitions.

Five teams are already confirmed for the big show in Berlin next year. Germany has secured its spot as the host nation, joined by Australia, Belgium, Nigeria, and the USA - all of whom earned direct qualification by winning their respective Continental titles this year.
Despite having guaranteed places, these five teams will still participate in the Women's World Cup Qualifying Tournaments next March, alongside the four hosts. These tournaments will determine the remaining 11 spots for 2026.
In order to qualify for Berlin, along with a Continental Cup winner, teams will need to secure one of the top three spots in hard-fought new round-robin tournaments, with each team playing five games. In the tournament with the host nation, Germany, only the two best teams will qualify, alongside Germany and a Continental Cup winner.
The FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2026 recently hit the one year to go milestone, with the women’s flagship event set to tip off on September 4 in the capital city of Germany.
