BEIRUT (Lebanon) - The FIBA West Asia Super League (WASL) Final 8 2026 is upon us, and that shall mean another week packed with high-level action bannered by the who's who of basketball in this region.
But before we set our sights to the highly anticipated culminating showpiece of the pan-regional meet, here's a quick crash course to understand and absorb everything about the September 26-October 4 contest.
What is the format?
The tournament features a total of 8 ball clubs, which are split into 2 groups of 4. Each cluster will play in a single round-robin format during the Group Phase, which will run from the 26th until October 1.
And similar to past editions, it's pretty much straightforward as far as the qualification to Semi-Finals is concerned. Simply, the top 2 teams from each group will advance to the said stage, scheduled on October 3.
The winning teams, of course, will duke it out for the WASL championship in the Final on October 4. The title bout will be preceded by the Third-Place Game featuring the losing sides in the Semi-Finals.
Which teams are playing?
Al Riyadi are headlining this year's cast being the reigning 2-time champions. They are in Group A with 2-time WASL-Gulf League winners Kuwait Club, Ittihad Club, and newcomers Indian Railways of SABA.
The Yellow Castle, the Brigadiers, and the Tigers are coming into this year's Final 8 armed with experience, having been in this stage during previous seasons, with the Kuwaiti outfit a runner-up in the 2023 inaugurals.
Composing Group B, on the other hand, are Sagesse SC, Shahrdari Gorgan, and debutants Al Arabi SC and Al Ula Club - a group which fans and observers alike perceive as the 'group of death' of the 2026 festivities.
That's because the Green Castle and the Iranian side have won medals in this league, and will be facing a pair of teams in the Red Devils and the Arabian Leopards that made some noise in the 2025-26 Gulf League.
When will the games start?
As mentioned above, the 2026 Final 8 will tip off on September 26 featuring a double-header affair.
Ittihad and Kuwait Club will open the tilt at 17:45 local time in a revenge game for the latter. Riyadi will then take on the Railways in the 20:45 local time main event to mark the start of their 'three-peat' bid.
All games of the tourney will be held at the Nouhad Nawfal Sports Complex in Zouk Mikael. The same venue, which has hosted numerous FIBA events in the past, was also the battleground of last year's Final 8.
