Donovan Williams named MVP

ZOUK MIKAEL (Lebanon) - Al Riyadi won the FIBA West Asia Super League championship for a third successive time by beating Sagesse SC, 75-67, in the 2026 Final at the Nouhad Nawfal Sports Complex, Sunday night.

Zach Lofton top-scored with 25 points and 10 rebounds, leading the Lebanese powerhouse to achieve history in the pan-regional competition two years after helping the club rule Basketball Champions League Asia.

Hayk Gyokchyan and Nick West notched double-double performances by finishing with 13 points apiece and collecting at least 10 rebounds each, while Donovan Williams chipped in 11 points and 7 rebounds.

Gyokchyan was crucial in Riyadi's strong closeout, conniving with Karim Zeinoun for back-to-back three-pointers for the 67-57 lead with 4:58 left, effectively restoring order after the opposition staged a comeback.

"Having won three times in a row, WASL has become Riyadi's favorite tournament," said head coach Ahmad Farran, as Riyadi are now in the midst of a 15-game winning streak in the league's culminating showpiece.

    Donovan Williams wins MVP

Williams gave Riyadi another reason to celebrate as the 25-year-old guard from Houston was adjudged as the Most Valuable Player after playing a major role in the team's mighty five-game sweep of the tilt.

He finished the 2026 Final 8 with per-game averages of 27.4 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 1.0 steal toward becoming the third Riyadi player to earn the league's highest individual honor after Thon Maker and Wael Arakji.

Williams was key in repelling Sagesse in the Final, converting a difficult basket from close range to keep their rivals at bay and eventually widen the spread to 75-64 with 1:02 left, all but sealing the crown anew.

Karim Ezzedine finished with 17 points to lead Sagesse, who found themselves settling for another runner-up finish to Riyadi similar to the 2024 Final 8 after falling in the title bout that went into overtime, 100-90.

Meanwhile, newcomers Al Ula Club capped their maiden WASL campaign with a bronze medal by beating Kuwait Club in the Third-Place Game, 93-79. It is the best finish by a Saudi Arabian ball club in the league.
