    PIRAEUS (Greece) - Mariona Ortiz left a mark in the history books of FIBA Women's EuroBasket by becoming the first-ever winner of the Best Defensive Player award, introduced for the 2025 edition.

    The 32-year-old Spanish guard played a crucial role Spain's march to the Final, which ultimately ended in a heart-breaking last-second defeat to back-to-back champions Belgium.

    Ortiz finished her maiden Women's EuroBasket campaign averaging 5.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.8 assists while spearheading Miguel Mendez's side on the defensive end with 1.3 steals and 0.5 blocks per game.
