SHENZHEN (China) – The FIBA Women’s Asia Cup 2025 Division B continued its thrilling final phase at the Shenzhen Sports Centre on Friday, with Iran and Chinese Taipei asserting their dominance in the Semi-Finals and moving one step closer to promotion.
Iran repeat over Thailand to reach Final
In a highly anticipated Semi-Finals rematch, Iran once again triumphed over Thailand with a 78-52 victory, securing their spot in the Division B Final. Building on their previous group stage win against Thailand, Iran displayed strong defensive resolve and timely scoring. While Thailand put up a resilient fight, Iran's cohesive team play, led by players like Negin Rasoulipour Khameneh and Roxanna Barahman, proved too much to overcome. Iran are now just one win away from promotion to Division A.
Barahman had 21 points to lead Iran, while Rasoulipour Khameneh added 13 points. Thailand were paced by Rattiyakorn Udomsuk's 24 points.
Chinese Taipei advance to Final after staving off Mongolia
Chinese Taipei showcased their championship aspirations by overpowering Mongolia, 92-82, in the second Semi-Finals game. Entering the game with an unbeaten record, Chinese Taipei had to endure a tight first quarter that saw them holding on to a slim 2-point lead. Afterwards, though, their fluid offense and suffocating defense kept Mongolia at bay for the rest of the contest. Despite the valiant efforts of Mongolia’s Khulan Onolbaatar, Chinese Taipei maintained control, extending their lead with sharp shooting and tenacious defense. This comprehensive victory sends Chinese Taipei to the Division B Final, where they will compete for a chance to return to Division A.
Han Ya En and Lin Wen-Yu tallied 21 and 20 points respectively for Chinese Taipei, while Onolbaatar scored 24 points for Mongolia.
With the Semi-Finals concluded, Iran and Chinese Taipei are set to clash in the highly anticipated Division B Final, where the winner will earn promotion to Division A. Thailand and Mongolia will play for third-place.
In the day's final Division B game, India clinched fifth place over Kazakhstan, 103-77. Sreekala Rani scored 30 points for India, while Daria Koroleva had 15 points for Kazakhstan.
