    France, Australia renew acquaintances in Tokyo World Cup warmup

    TOKYO (Japan) - Hoops fans in Japan won't have to wait for the start of the FIBA Basketball World Cup to see a terrific match-up with powerhouses France and Australia squaring off on August 20.

    TOKYO (Japan) - Hoops fans in Japan won't have to wait for the start of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 to see a terrific match-up with powerhouses France and Australia meeting on August 20.

    As part of the Men's International Basketball Game 2023 Tokyo Tournament, France and Australia, the two countries that squared off in the Third-Place Game at the 2019 World Cup, will play against each other once again.


    France came from behind to beat Australia in Beijing to reach the World Cup podium. Both countries had terrific performances at the Tokyo Olympics that followed, with France claiming the silver medal and Australia the bronze.

    Now, the two teams will face each other once more at least one more time this summer.

    Australia will remain in the country and take on Japan, Germany, and Finland in Group E while France will travel to Jakarta to start their World Cup campaign in Group H against Canada, Latvia, and Lebanon.

    This scheduled tune-up game between the two teams could be a potential preview for a "Final Phase" rematch when the competition advances to that stage in Manila, Philippines. from September 4 onwards.
