BELO HORIZONTE (Brazil) - With Brazil looking to keep their title as the top team in the Americas after receiving gold at FIBA AmeriCup 2025, it takes a full team effort. Leo Meindl knows that all too well as a veteran on the Brazilian national team. He has represented the country across the Olympics, AmeriCup and FIBA World Cup competitions, making his debut with the senior national team in 2014. In Brazil's latest endeavor, they ended with an 94-84 victory in a must-win game against Venezuela in the second window of the FIBA World Cup Americas Qualifiers, was a team effort led by Meindl. He tallied 25 points in just over 27 minutes, including 18 points from the three-point arc.
Meindl was not part of the AmeriCup 2025 winning roster, so he's making the most out of being able to represent his nation on one of the biggest stages in basketball. During the first qualifying window, Meindl was consistent, putting up double-digit games, averaging 11.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists across two games versus Chile. More than one returning veteran made an impact, as Rafa Luz was dishing dimes with 10 assists in 16 minutes for Brazil. His tenure dates back to 2011, bringing leadership experience to a team that is on a hot streak across strong Americas competition. Brazil is now 3-0 across qualifiers, and will look to improve on their 13th-place finish at the FIBA World Cup 2023.
