Women’s Series opens in Chengdu with elite teams chasing early glory

    CHENGDU (China) – The FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series is heading back to one of its most vibrant stops as Chengdu hosts the fourth edition of the event on May 1-2, kicking off what should be a blockbuster season of world-class women's 3x3 basketball.

    Here’s everything you need to know before the action tips off this weekend.

    Where is the event?

    The FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series Chengdu 2026 will take place at the iconic Jiaozi Music Square, located in the heart of the city’s bustling Wuhou district. Known for its electric atmosphere and passionate fans, Chengdu has quickly become a fan-favorite stop on the FIBA 3x3 Women's Series.

    This year’s edition is part of a three-day 3x3 basketball extravaganza, running alongside the FIBA 3x3 World Tour Chengdu 2026 stop. This means non-stop action from May 1 to 3.

    When is it?

    • Friday, May 1 – Women’s Series Qualifying Draw & Pool Games

    • Saturday, May 2 – Women’s Series Knockout Games & Finals + World Tour Qualifying Draw & Pool Games

    • Sunday, May 3 – World Tour Knockout Games & Finals

    It’s a packed schedule where the Women’s Series will take center stage early before handing over the spotlight to the World Tour’s biggest stars.

    Who won last time?

    The 2025 edition in Chengdu saw Netherlands take home the title, showcasing elite execution and composure on the big stage. They’ll be looking to defend their crown, but the competition this year is deeper and hungrier than ever.

    Who are the teams?

    A total of 16 teams will compete in Chengdu, featuring a mix of powerhouse nations, rising programs and local contenders.

    Qualifying Draw A: China (CHN), Warsaw (POL), Lion City (SGP) Qualifying Draw B: Philippines (PHI), New Zealand (NZL), Brazil (BRA)

    Main Draw:

    Pool A: Ulaanbaatar Amazons (MGL), Mongolia (MGL), Yanjing (CHN) Pool B: Amsterdam (NED), Germany (GER), Beijing (CHN) Pool C: Poland (POL), Japan (JPN), QD A Pool D: Australia (AUS), United States (USA), QD B

    The top seeds in Chengdu are Ulaanbaatar Amazons, Amsterdam, Australia and Poland. Other notable teams include Germany, Japan, Philippines, China and the United States, ensuring global representation and a wide range of playing styles.

    How does the competition work?

    On Day 1, there will first be the Qualifying Draw games. The top teams of each Qualifying Draw will advance to the Main Draw. The top team from Qualifying Draw A will join Pool C, while the top team from Qualifying Draw B will join Pool D.

    The 12 teams in the Main Draw are split into four pools, with the top two teams in each pool at the end of Day 1 advancing to the Knockout rounds on Day 2.

    Every game in pool play is critical, with limited spots available in the Quarter-Finals.

    Which players should you watch?

    With elite talent spread across the field, several standout names could shape the outcome in Chengdu.

    Khulan Onolbaatar (Ulaanbaatar Amazons) enters as one of the tournament’s biggest stars. A member of the Team of the Tournament at the FIBA 3x3 World Cup 2025, she recently powered Mongolia to a top-five finish at the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup 2026 and will once again be the focal point for the top seeds.

    Mikka Cacho (Philippines) is riding a wave of momentum after helping the Philippines secure a historic runner-up finish at the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup 2026, clinching qualification for the FIBA 3x3 World Cup 2026. Expect her to bring energy, scoring and confidence into the qualifying draw.

    Amy Atwell (Australia) is one to keep a close eye on as she makes just her second appearance on the FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series. Fresh off Australia’s title run at the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup 2026, she adds firepower and versatility to an already dangerous squad.

    Meanwhile, Aleksandra Zięmborska (Poland) brings experience and consistency as a FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series veteran. She played a key role in Poland’s top-six finish at the FIBA 3x3 Europe Cup 2025 and will be crucial to her team’s ambitions in Chengdu.
