    KIGALI (Rwanda) - The FIBA U16 AfroBasket consistently showcases the next generation of stars from Africa.

    Over the years the tournament has been a proving ground where young athletes hone their skills and deliver performances that hint at the future of basketball in Africa.

    The stats reveal much more than numbers. They capture moments of brilliance, resilience, and promise.

    Examining the last edition of the biennial event reveals how individuals elevated their teams through scoring outbursts, dominant rebounding, defensive intensity, and visionary passing, leaving a lasting impression on the competition.

    Several standout individual performances defined the Monastir edition of the tournament and highlighted future prospects.

    Most points in a game

    Tejan Joel Rugette is seen here during the 2025 AfroBasket.

    Uganda’s Tejan Joel Rugette lit up the group phase with a tournament-high 35 points in an 85–80 win against Morocco.

    He went 11–for–22 inside the arc, 1–for–4 from deep, and 10–for–13 from the line.

    He followed that with another 33-point performance against Chad.

    Rwanda’s Sean Williams also stole the spotlight, scoring 34 points in a 78-59 win over Tunisia on 6-for-10 shooting inside the arc, 5-for-10 from beyond the arc, and 7-for-8 from the free throw line.

    Rugette led all scorers with 26.6 points per game across five appearances.

    Two years later, Rugette made his debut with the men's team at the AfroBasket held in Angola last month.

    Most rebounds in a game

    Mahamadou Kouye Diop of Mali delivered an incredible performance against Rwanda, grabbing 26 rebounds (14 offensive and 12 defensive) and scoring 23 points in a 76-72 victory.

    Diop currently plays high school basketball for San Gabriel Academy in the U.S.

    Most steals in a game

    Uganda’s Harry Tindyebwa collected eight steals in a tight 65-68 loss to Tunisia in the Classification Game for 9th place. Chad’s Aristide Allaramadji matched the mark in a Group Phase clash against Morocco.

    Most assists in a game

    In his first AfroBasket game ever, Nour Gassim Touré scored seven points in a 83-55 victory against Libya.

    Nour Gassim Toure of Guinea delivered a tournament-high 15 assists in the 106-43 quarterfinals win against Côte d’Ivoire. He also added 21 points, completing a memorable double-double.

    Born in October 2008, Toure made his debut with Guinea's men's team at the 2025 AfroBasket in Angola, where he was the second-youngest player after DR Congo's Mervedi Kasekelayi Miteo, born in December 2008.

    Most rebounds and double-doubles per game

    Diane Araphan finished the 2024 FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup as the only player to record six double-doubles.

    Guinea’s 6'11" center, Araphan Diane, dominated the boards with 17.3 rebounds per game. Highlights include a 24-rebound night against Chad and 23 against Côte d'Ivoire.

    In addition to his rebounding ability, Diane registered the most double-doubles (seven) in the tournament. He averaged 17.4 points and 17.3 rebounds per game.

    A year later, at the 2024 FIBA U17 World Cup in Türkiye, Diane showcased his full potential, leading the tournament with 11.7 rebounds per game.
