MIES (Switzerland) - As anticipation rises ahead of the upcoming Draw for the FIBA Women's Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament 2026, the principles which will guide the process have now been set.
The competition will take place in Guadalajara, Mexico from August 17-23, with the winner punching a ticket to the FIBA Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournaments set for February 2028.
The FIBA Women's Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament 2026 Draw will take place at the Patrick Baumann House of Basketball in Mies on June 19 at 16:00 CET and will be streamed live on the FIBA YouTube channel.
FIBA Women's Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament Pots
The eight competing nations have been divided into four pots based on the FIBA World Ranking Women, presented by Nike and will be drawn into 2 groups (A & B).
Pot 1: Canada (7th), Brazil (9th) Pot 2: New Zealand (21st), Senegal (22nd) Pot 3: Argentina (23rd), Philippines (30th) Pot 4: Mexico (31st), South Sudan (42nd)
FIBA Women's Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament Draw Principles
Each pot will allocate one team into each respective group with the following geographical restrictions applied: - There will be 2 teams from Americas in each group. - There will be 1 team from Asia in each group.
- There will be 1 team from Africa in each group.
Meanwhile whenever a team is drawn, a competition number will be drawn at the same time.
Each team will play against the other opponents in their group in a single round-robin format, meaning at least three games for every country heading to Guadalajara. The top two teams from each group will advance to the Semi-Finals, with the winner of the subsequent Final taking the ticket to the FIBA Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournaments 2028.
