PIRAEUS (Greece) - Belgium have been crowned as back-to-back FIBA Women's EuroBasket champions after overcoming Spain in a dramatic Final on Sunday.
They earned a late 67-65 triumph in front of 7,827 fans at the iconic Peace and Friendship Stadium - a record attendance for a Women's EuroBasket Final in the 21st century - to become just the third national team in history to successfully defend their title.
The victory also secured Belgium a direct spot to the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2026.
Belgium overturned a 12-point deficit in the final quarter to complete a stunning victory with Antonia Delaere's go-ahead layup with just 5.3 seconds left on the clock.
Spain had enjoyed a six-point cushion at the half-time break, and moved further clear with an 11-2 start to the fourth. However, just as they did two years ago, Belgium came back with a stunning 16-2 run to close out the game.
The TISSOT MVP award went to Emma Meesseman for the second edition in a row after the Belgium star posted impressive tournament averages of 19.2 points, 9.2 rebounds, 5.3 assists, 2.3 steals and 1.8 blocks
Meesseman was joined in the tournament's TISSOT All-Star Five by teammate Julie Allemand as well as Spanish duo Alba Torrens and Raquel Carrera and Italy's Cecilia Zandalasini.
In the Third Place Game, Italy took the final step on the podium with a 69-54 win over France to mark their best finish in 30 years since being runners-up in 1995.
Meanwhile, Türkiye secured the final European spot at the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2026 Qualifying Tournaments as they defeated Lithuania to finish in seventh place. They joined top four sides Belgium, France, Italy and Spain as well as Germany and Czechia - who were already qualified.
