DONGGUAN (China) - Dongguan New Century hardly broke a sweat in dealing Busan BNK Sum a 91-56 pummeling to barge into the FIBA WBL Asia 2025 Final picture, Saturday night at the Dongguan Sports Center.
Blessing Ejiofor and Aliyah Collier scored the game's first seven points, before the Yang sisters and Chen Mingling added on to their lead that eventually became 26-10 before the opening period came to a close.
And that's practically they needed to cruise to the victory, in the process sweeping their way into the Big Dance to forge a showdown with the Fujitsu Red Wave in a battle of unbeaten teams on Sunday, September 28.
The title bout is set at 19:00 local time.
"Our team has been improving everyday," offered head coach Zheng Wei post-game. "Tonight, I think on both ends we did really well. Tomorrow we are playing against a stronger team so we need to be prepared."
Chen top-scored for the defending WCBA champions with 17 points, alongside 3 rebounds and 5 assists. Collier was their other double-digit scorer in the triumph as she finished with 16 points and 5 rebounds.
But it was actually a solid spread-out attack for Coach Zheng's unit, as all but one scored at least a field goal in the wire-to-wire victory, with Huang Sijing doing a bit of everything with 9 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists.
Dongguan finished with 30 assists and flat-out dominated the boards, 50-30, on their way to sending the reigning WKBL titlists skidding to their second loss in a row after opening their campaign by escaping Al Ula.
Sonia Kim carried much of the load for BNK Sum anew with 21 points. Lee Sohee added 10.
The Korean side will look to finish their campaign with a win - and with a medal, they hope - as they take on the Ulaanbaatar Amazons of Mongolia in the Third-Place Game on Sunday as well at 16:00 local time.
