Huang Ling-Chuan is central to Chinese Taipei’s determined push for promotion

SHENZHEN (China) - For Huang Ling-Chuan, the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup 2025 represents much more than another tournament. It embodies a chance for redemption. Now in her third Asia Cup appearance after playing in 2019 and 2023, Huang has grown into a key leader and sharpshooter for Chinese Taipei, a team aiming to bounce back strongly after the sting of relegation in 2023.

After three games in this tournament, Huang is putting up impressive numbers: averaging 12.0 points, 3.3 rebounds and an eye-catching 3.3 three-pointers per game. Her deadly perimeter shooting helps anchor the team's offense as they capture first place in Division B and try to regain their spot in Division A.

Reflecting on the painful relegation just two years ago, Huang shared, "Our team and I were very frustrated and felt down. But interestingly enough, after watching tennis, where you must fix errors immediately and keep playing, I changed my mindset."

"We have to fix our errors," she admitted. "And we are here with one goal—to win the Division B championship and get back to Division A.”

The recent high-intensity preparations, including training in Japan and competition at the recent William Jones Cup 2025, have helped sharpen the team’s edge.

"We had high intensity preparations. I’m kind of used to those games, so I want to take this experience into the next game," Huang said after hitting six three-pointers in their opening contest.

Chinese Taipei’s journey in Shenzhen is about more than just wins. It's about regaining pride and unity.

"A couple of weeks ago, we weren’t in our best condition with some tough losses in our preparation games," she noted. "But we ended the Jones Cup strong with a win against Japan’s university team, showing our strength and unity toward our goal."

Despite carrying a 3-0 record at the end of their group phase assignments, the team face tough opponents ahead, and Huang stresses the importance of focus and caution.

"We will face strong teams. There are good teams we’ve faced multiple times, so we have to be careful with every detail," she added. "Even against less experienced teams, we must play cautiously and take it one game at a time to reach our goal."

For Huang Ling-Chuan and Chinese Taipei, this tournament is a chance to transform frustration into fuel, errors into lessons and determination into triumph. Leading by example with every clutch three-pointer, Huang embodies the sharpness that Chinese Taipei need to reclaim their place among Asia’s elite.

Their goal is clear: win Division B, return to Division A and show the continent that Chinese Taipei basketball belongs among the best.
